Can I pay for my children's orthodontic treatment in instalments?
Yes. A payment plan is available. Please speak to one of our account staff at your nearest branch.
Do teeth with braces need special care?
Yes. Keeping your teeth and braces clean takes more precision and time than usual, and it needs to be done every day if your teeth and gums are to stay healthy during and after treatment. Clean, healthy teeth also move more quickly.
Can you be too old for braces?
No. If the bone and gum tissue around your teeth are healthy, age is not a factor. About 20% of orthodontic patients are adults.
Are there food restrictions while I have braces?
Yes. Avoid:
- Hard food, which can bend wires, loosen cement under the bands or break the brackets and tubes on your teeth.
- Sticky food, which can bend wires and pull bands loose.
- Foods high in sugar, which cause tooth decay. If you eat them, brush your teeth straight away, or rinse with water first. Patients should rinse immediately after eating and then brush.
Apples, carrots and biltong should be sliced and eaten carefully. Remove the crust from toast, and dip rusks in coffee or tea. Avoid popcorn, lollipops, peanuts, toffees, ice and chewing gum.
What should I expect while wearing braces?
- Your teeth will be sore.
- Eating may feel a little difficult at first.
- You will need extra time to clean your teeth.
- Occasional mouth ulcers can happen.
